How to prevent central line tip contamination on removal?

When obtaining a central line tip for culture we would normally:

1. Following removal of the dressing clean around the catheter/skin junction with chlorhexidine and alcohol and allow time to dry.
2. Remove the catheter so that it does not ‘drag’ across the skin.
3. Cut the catheter with sterile scissors and send 4cm of the catheter tip to the laboratory in a sterile specimen container.

Can you think of any additional measures to prevent tip contamination on removal?
